Lynn: Romney’s A Funny Guy! Who Knew?
Tonight was the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation dinner at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. It’s an annual white-tie gala organized by the Catholic Archdiocese of New York that aims to raise money for Catholic charities, all in the name of former New York Governor Al Smith, the first Catholic presidential candidate.
Last year, they raised $2 million. They’re more optimistic this year, with their sights set on $5 million. At $2,500 a plate, they could easily hit that mark.
Anyhow, since 1960, it has been somewhat of a tradition for incumbent presidents and their contenders to attend and roast each other. All in good fun, of course. Relieves a little residual tension from the debates. Though the roast is not supposed to be a face-off, Mitt Romney won hands down, if you ask me! The gloves are supposed to be off, but Romney laid down some punches to President Obama with perfect comic timing. Like this gem:
“Of course we’re down to the final months of the president’s term…As President Obama surveys the Waldorf banquet room, with everyone in white tie and finery, you have to wonder what he’s thinking. So little time, so much to redistribute.”
Mitt Romney, a funny man. Who knew?
If you have 10 minutes to spare, watch it for yourself. I dare you not to laugh!
