Carol: All Hail Lord Obama, Protector-of-the-LadyParts!
When your campaign pitch sounds like something vaguely reminiscent of a Monty Python sketch (see title above), you’ve got a problem. It’s so insanely ridiculous, it’s hard even to be outraged by it.
The Obama campaign cards, hoping to get out the vote by telling Americans to “Vote like your lady parts depend on it . . . because they kinda do” has just made itself a laughingstock. The jokes write themselves — is this pitch really the “breast” they can do? Or how ’bout this one: How exactly is President Obama proposing to protect our “lady parts”? In the spirit of the now-famous “ObamaPhone,” is he going to convince his partisans that he’s in the market to hand out “Obama-belts” (chastity belts generously underwritten by your taxpayer dollars at work)? Come on. Perhaps this was the first, last and only time that the party of radical feminists was willing to use the term “lady” in any context . . . much less one that objectifies and reduces female voters to the sum of their, well, “lady parts.”
More seriously, is the President talking about his HHS mandate, forcing on religious institutions the obligations to cover birth control against their religious convictions? Maybe the President who doesn’t want women to be “punished” with a baby really thinks of subsidized contraception as somehow “protective.” Go figure. But it strikes me that breasts seem to fall outside the protective mantle of the President’s attention . . . the United States Preventative Services Task Force — empowered with enormous authority under ObamaCare — recommended raising the age for mammogram screening from 40 to 50 until a massive outcry forced them to back track.
And given the problems in the Middle East — where radical Islamists seem to be in ascension despite presidential “outreach” over a period of years (or, perhaps emboldened by its timidity!) — doesn’t it seem that Obama should be more concerned about the “lady parts” of the women in Egypt, where female genital mutilation may be revived in the name of Islam?
